Augmented Hummelsheim Procedure for Paralytic Strabismus

Slide 1 Slide 1. The inferior rectus is split in half longitudinally using two Stevens hooks. The anterior ciliary arteries are intact. A fornix conjunctival incision is used.
Slide 2 Slide 2. A suture is placed into the half of the muscle to be transposed. The suture is placed several millimeters posterior to the insertion. The muscle and tendon anterior to the suture are resected.
Slide 3 Slide 3. Diagram showing the position of the transposed muscles adjacent to the paretic muscle (intact). The ipsilateral antagonist of the paretic muscle has been recessed. Three anterior ciliary arteries remain intact.
